Links with the Construction Industry |
One
of the first tasks of a building research organization is the
identification of what is relevant and necessary to the building
industry and whether information already exists elsewhere and could
be brought to bear and be interpreted or adapted for use under local
conditions. |
It
is also essential to develop the understanding, appreciation and
trust of the construction industry and to establish active links
with industrial counterparts in order to ensure effective
communication. |
Some
of the means that are or could be used by the Institute to achieve
this are: |
| a- |
The
involvement of research staff in practical problems within the
construction industry in an advisory and consultancy role. In
this way, BRRI research staff can complete their major role of
carrying out research with a complementary role which brings
them into contract with other organizations and with the
building industry |
| b- |
The use of
the Institute as a source for the collection and dissemination
of relevant information to the construction industry through
technical publications, information leaflets, films and other
visual aids, meetings, workshops, seminars and symposia.
Co-operation with Relevant Organizations |
On the
national level, it is imperative for units with similar research
activities and common interest to plan and identify special skills
and equipment which can be shared to avoid costly duplication. The
Institute has implemented this policy, within its ability to do so,
as shown by its special relations with the Faculty of Engineering
and Arch. and the working arrangement with the Industrial Research
and Consultancy Institute |
The
Institute has special ties with the Council of Scientific and
Technological Research (CSTR) of the National Council For Research
which is the body responsible for the co-ordination of research
activities on the national level. Most of the present research
projects of BRRI are sponsored by SCTR and its director is a very
important member of both the Board and the Standing Committee of the
Institute. |
