Welcome Message
The mechanical engineering department was established in 1946, and is currently one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Engineering & Arch., University of Khartoum. Our graduates work in almost every technology-based industry: automotive, electric power generation, petroleum, steel and materials, chemical and petro-chemical, manufacturing, and textiles. Our outstanding faculty is committed to excellence in teaching and research. We genuinely care about our students and their future.
Our goal for undergraduate students is to give them a high quality engineering education that includes hands-on experience. Each of our faculty members is ready and willing to work in their research specialty with capable students on individual projects. Our faculty have four major areas of research: thermal systems, fluids systems, Manufacuring, and System. All areas strongly support the growing automotive and manufacturing economy in the Sudan.
We strive to ensure that all our students have a strong education with teaming and leadership skills, involvement in student activities, and the practical background. We believe that emphasizing these areas will make our students well qualified to take leadership roles in the future.
The Department also
offers research facilities for postgraduate
studies leading to the award of MSc and PhD
degrees in mechanical engineering. Currently, there are two MSc Courses:
one in Renewable Energy Technology and the
other in Energy Engineering. A third MSc Course in Production Engineering
will be launched soon. The number of students who obtained postgraduate
degrees from the Mechanical Engineering
Department exceeds 200. Currently, there are 45 MSc
students and 15 PhD students at the Department.
