About The Faculty

             
               
         

Foundation:

 

Animal Production was a department of both of the faculties of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences, and then in 1982 it became an independent institute pertaining to post graduate studies. The Institute was upgraded in 1992 to the Faculty of Animal Production.

 
   

Teaching Staff:

 

The Faculty has (20) members of the teaching staff, as follows:
(5) Professors
(2) Associate Professors
(9) Assistant Professors
(4) Lecturers

The Faculty also has (4) teaching assistants and employs (10) technicians.

   

Students:

 

The Faculty has (249) students. In the academic year 1997-98 (26) students graduated from the Faculty. (174) students were awarded the M.Sc. degree and (8) students were awarded the Ph.D. degree, since the beginning of post graduate studies at the Faculty.

   

The Library:

There are five laboratories at the faculty:
1-Nutrition

2-Dairy
3-Animal Genetics and Breeding
4-Poultry Husbandry
5-Meat

   
 

These laboratories benefit the B.Sc. and post graduate students as well as the members of the teaching staff and other faculties of the University

   

Research:

 

The Faculty offers applied researches in its varied specialisations such as: Poultry, Husbandry concerning nutrition, production and environmental production as well as other small ruminants (sheep and goats), concerning nutrition, production, reproduction, breeding and care. The Faculty cooperates with the Animal Resources Research Centre (Hilat Kuku) in research concerning dairy and meat producing cattle.

   

Activities:

 

The Faculty offers the following services:

 

 
a-

Advisory tours outside the capital carried out by the fifth year students.

b-

Courses on poultry production.

   

 Cultural Relations:

 

The Faculty has relations with the Atomic Energy Research Centre, the Animal Resources Research Centre and with the two slaughterhouses at Al Kadaru and Omdurman. Also the faculty maintains relations with the Food Research Centre, the Wild Life Research Centre and the Fisheries Research Centre Al Shajara. The Faculty cooperates as well with the Faculties and the Institutes of the University that have similar specialisations such as the Faculties of Science, Veterinary Sciences, Agriculture and the Institute of Environmental Studies.
